On September 9, TV Asahi reported that the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Public Relations Department ordered the game companies to prohibit the boys-love content in their online games. Not only that, but they also instructed them to eliminate content that has false values. They don’t even want games to have any kind of illicit material. According to Chinese officials, boys-love or shonen-ai is an “inferior culture,” and they want to put an end to it. As a result, the department clearly warned all the companies. They told them that if they continued to publish boys-love content, then they would be severely punished.
Earlier in September, the Chinese government banned all television content that could effeminate men. They did this in order to enforce “official morality” and “revolutionary culture.” Their main concern is that the Chinese pop stars who act and look unmanly are not leaving a good impact on the young generation of China. They want their young generation to be masculine and not feminine. As a result, President Xi Jinping ordered tighter control of the culture and religion in order to get the youth back on track.
