Fruits Basket Prelude is finally returning with its new movie. Recently, the animation studio revealed the movie’s release date in international theaters. After 63-episodes of anime and successfully running over three seasons, the adaptation will explore the back story behind Tohru Honda. It will be fun to watch how the stories unfold and what new twists they will bring to Tohru’s life.
The series first debuted back in 1998. Hana to Yume magazine serialized the Fruits Basket manga series by Natsuki Takaya from 1998 to 2006. After a successful run, it once again returned in 2015 and ran to 2020. Soon the manga series got its two anime adaptations. The first adaptation aired in 2001. But it covered only a fragment of the manga. Later its reboot version aired in 2019 that ran through 3 seasons.
Fruits Basket Prelude: What Will Happen Next?
Fruits Basket Prelude was first announced back in June 2021 and dropped the film’s first trailer. The trailer showcases how Kyoko and Katsuya first met. There was the unheard story of Kyoko and Katsuya, which began before Kyo and Tohru’s story took place. The couple discovers the rough beginning of Tohru’s mom’s dark past. They also learn about a man who brings a ray of hope into her life. Now the whole new film will explore the birth of the Honda family and how this chapter brings joy to their family.
Fruits Basket Prelude: Cast Details
The cast for both the Japanese and English versions is already out. Miyuki Sawashiro and Lydia Mackay will play Kyoko Honda. J. Michael Tatum and Yoshimasa Hosoya will play Katsuya Hondo. Manaka Iwami and Laura Bailey will play Tohru Honda. As for Kyo Soma, Yuma Uchida and Jerry Jewell will play the role.

Fruits Basket Prelude: Release Date
Fruits Basket Prelude movie is finally getting its international release date. It will be in theatres in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. Crunchyroll holds the movie distribution event, and it will also be out in the movie theatres in Canada and the United States in both dub and subtitle format on June 25, 28, and 29, 2022.
Meanwhile, the movie will air in the dubbed version in the United Kingdom on July 20, 2022. Fruits Basket: Prelude aired in Japan back in February 2022. During the opening weekend, it gained over 33 million yen. Apart from the release date, Crunchyroll had also dropped the movie’s first trailer in subtitled and dubbed versions. Stay tuned.
