February 4th brought an amazing news story for the fans of Attack On Titan. The series has reportedly jotted up in the list of MAL and surpassed the extremely popular Death Note. The ongoing series which came out in 2013 has been a huge commercial success. However, many fans argue that it took the adventure thriller way longer than one might foresee. On the other hand, Death Note fans are not too happy with the new list. All in all, the fourth season of AoT continues to break records as it proceeds further.
The news might not be surprising for AoT watchers. However, it has come as a shocker to Death Note fans. This also brings back the constant comparison between both the series on many anime sites. Attack On Titan has had a huge impact since the beginning of its release. From the death of Eren’s mother in the hands of a titan to Eren becoming a titan himself, the series has come a long way. Moreover, the fourth season has brought a new audience to the franchise.
Attack On Titan Surpasses Death Note’s Popularity On MAL!
MyAnimeList released a new detail on their official site on February 4. And the news received much positive response. The anime site features a total count of the number of users who added a certain series to their list. Hence, the numbers that popped up were Attack On Titan with 3,264,436 counts whereas, Death Note had 3,262,104 members. Now, the difference is not much, but it was enough to dethrone the 2006 release.
The list next followed Full Metal Alchemist on 3rd while the ongoing action series, My Hero Academia, stood at the 6th rank. Now, AoT tops the Airing Anime list too. What further concretes Shingeki no Kyujin’s popularity is the constant crashes of sites like Crunchyroll, and Funimation on its releases. The episodes have reached several milestones. Plus, the fourth season of the anime scores a 9.14 rating.

Will The Series Continue As The Best Anime Of All Time?
Many fans have come forward in Death Note’s defense and readily called MAL’s ratings and list as vague. The site offers the fans to like and add a specific series and its episodes. Redditors argue that many times fans discontinue watching. However, the counts do not get subtracted in this case. Now, it is apparent that Attack On Titan is in no way lesser-known. But the 2006 murder mystery has some solid fanbase too. Some fans add that AoT’s ending will humble the rankings once again and bring Death Note in the lead.
Whatever the ending might bring, Death Note has surely taken a bow for the time being. Moreover, a film is also on its way to conclude the series once and for all. So, the ratings might falter here and there. However, till now, the fourth season has been going great. Hence, the years-long legacy of Death Note has finally ended. But it can not be looked over that the Kira mystery was undoubtedly the most popular anime of all time.
