Based on Kazue Kato’s manga series, Blue Exorcist revolves around Rin Okumura, who discovers that he is Satan’s son. After using the demon-slaying sword Kurikara, Rin gains a demonic appearance and decides to become stronger to destroy Satan. In order to find a new direction, Rin enrolls in the Japanese branch of the True Cross Order to polish his skills. After his enrollment, he discovers that his younger twin, Yukio, is a veteran exorcist and one of the teachers in his academy. With his brother’s help, Rin works on developing new skills to destroy his father.
Blue Exorcist Season 4 Is Back!
At present, Blue Exorcist is one of the best animes, and there’s no denying that. The series first debuted back in April 2011 and made an uproar in the anime industry. However, fans remained disheartened after the second season when the anime committee announced nothing about Blue Exorcist. Nearly seven years later, the anime surprised everyone with its third season. The best part was the third season, which began with the Shimane Illuminati Saga arc. Fans had been waiting for this arc, and finally, Blue Exorcist returned with the mega arc.
The third season began straight to the action-packed scenes, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. During a Blue Stage for Blue Exorcist on March 24, 2024, at Anime Japan 2024, the voice actors revealed that Blue Exorcist Season 4 was happening. Nobuhiko Okamoto, Jun Fukuyama, Kana Hanazawa, and Eri Kitamura, who voice Rin Okumura, Yukio Okumura, Shiemi, and Izumo Kamiki, respectively, shared the news via a motion visual. The news undoubtedly is hotly anticipated, and fans have been looking forward to it.
With such amazing news, fans are delighted with another jaw-dropping update. That event further confirmed that the fourth season will be split into two cours. Yes, you read that right! The anime will return with two cours. The first cour will return as a part of the Fall 2024 anime schedule, while the second cour information has yet to be disclosed. Since a lot has happened in the previous season, we expect Blue Exorcist Season 4 will bring more shocking updates to our table.
The Teaser Trailer Is Out
As soon as the anime committee revealed that the fourth season was on its way, it also dropped the first teaser trailer. Well, fans have been waiting for this update. While the trailer didn’t reveal much about Blue Exorcist Season 4, it did suggest what fans can expect from the next season. The key poster depicts Rin Okumura and his brother Yukio Okumura standing against each other. Rin is standing on the right side, holding his Koma sword, while his brother is standing on the left side with his gun.
The trailer further hints that the Exwire leader is injured. While the reason behind this animosity remains unclear, the saga is going to explore Yukio’s conflict. He will doubt his identity, which will create more complications between the brothers. Meanwhile, the trailer teases that the Exwire team and its leader, Rin, will confront the most challenging situation. The official X account of the anime has revealed that the Blue Exorcist Season 4 will continue with the Shimane Illuminati Saga’s event. That means Rin’s fate will be explored.
Blue Exorcist Season 4: Production Update
Shortly after the renewal news, the anime committee confirmed that Blue Exorcist Season 4 had undergone production. The anime typically takes a year or two to finish the production work. Since Blue Exorcist Season 4 entered production earlier this year, it might have already wrapped up the filming of the first part. As for the second part, nothing is known to this date (August 2024).
The first part is subtitled Blue Exorcist: Beyond The Snow Saga (Yuki no Hate-hen), while the second part is subtitled The Blue Night Saga. While the production details have remained under wraps, the anime committee hasn’t yet shared which studio will return. According to the official announcement, the entire third-season staff will return.
This means Daisuke Yoshida will return as the series director. Toshiya Ono will join as the scriptwriter, Yurie Oochigashi as the character designer, Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano as the music composer. The production committee has also revealed the opening theme song of Beyond The Snow Saga. As per the source, Reol will perform the opening theme song, titled “Re Rescue.” Meanwhile, Yobahi will perform the ending theme song, “Tsurara.”
Will Studio VOLN Return?
A-1 Pictures produced the first two seasons of Blue Exorcist. However, the studio later didn’t return with more seasons of the anime instead the third season was animated by Studio VOLN. The studio house was founded in August 2014 and created several stellar animes within this span. So far, the animation studio has animated Ushio & Tora, Back Arrow, and Idol Incidents.
While the animation studio returned with the Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga, it remains unclear whether it will return for another season. As of now, nothing is known about the studio house. The official website of the studio house hasn’t shared anything about Blue Exorcist Season 4. Thus, whether Studio VOLN will return for the next season remains unclear. However, since the entire staff has returned, we expect Studio VOLN to return.
Blue Exorcist Season 4: What Will Happen Next?
The third season’s finale began with Rin and his friends working on their way to deal with the Impure King. While the epic fight created more chaos among Rio and his group, they successfully defeated the Impure King. After this mega defeat, the team returned to their daily lives at True Cross Academy. The anime then started at a slow pace, focusing on the main characters’ everyday lives. But things became more complicated when the Knights of the True Cross received a cryptic message.
The Knights received multiple consultations about demons because strange activities started occurring across the world. While the Knights worked on their way to eliminating the demonic powers from the world, Rin and his Exwires members appeared busy dealing with the mysterious events plaguing the school. As the anime unfolded, it showcased that things turned more dramatic when Lucifer, the King of Light and Commander in Chief of the Illuminati, appeared in the school.
Lucifer’s entry turns out to be the most dramatic one as he declares war on the Knights of the True Cross. Since the third season ended with the declaration of war, Blue Exorcist Season 4 will pick the pace from the Illuminati Saga. The Knights will join hands to fight against Lucifer, who aims to resurrect Satan and the realm of demons. Meanwhile, Rin and his group will fight against the odds to clear the True Cross complication.

Will Blue Exorcist Season 4 Be The Final Season?
You can rest assured! That’s because Blue Exorcist Season 4 isn’t the final season of the series. The anime is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Kazue Kato. It was started serializing in April 2009 in Shueisha’s Shonen manga magazine Jump Square. As of June 2024, the manga is collected in 31 tankobon volumes. Since the manga series status is ongoing, ample source material is left to be covered.
The fourth season focuses on Beyond The Snow, while the second part focuses on the Blue Night Saga. Since the manga is currently exploring the “Of One Cloth” arc, we can safely say that the show can return with two or more seasons. So, fans won’t have to fret, as the series won’t end like this. The fourth season will start with Chapter 92 of Volume 20. It hasn’t yet shared how many chapters it will cover, but we can safely say that it might explore three to four volumes.
