Divine Gate originated as a 2013 Japanese smartphone game developed by Acquire for Android and iOS devices. Back in the day, the unique game ruled the hearts of thousands of players from all around the globe. It was also one of the highest-rated RPG action smartphone games around that time. Due to its immense popularity, the game ended up inspiring an anime adaptation of the same name. Studio Pierrot’s anime television series aired in Japan between January and March 2016.
Divine Gate Season 2: Renewal!
Unlike the original game, the Divine Gate anime ended up disappointing most of its audience. The series is poorly rated on almost all platforms, mostly because of its underwhelming writing. Moreover, it also failed to impress the critics and ended up becoming a commercial disaster. Yet, surprisingly, the 2016 show rose to popularity around its broadcast in Japan. Viewers believed that since it’s adapted from the critically-acclaimed game, the anime’s story still had a charm to it.
Well, quite a large percentage of its viewers were fascinated by the first season. As of today, the TV series has a massive fan-following that is waiting for Divine Gate Season 2. Sadly, none of the companies involved in its production, including Studio Pierrot, has confirmed the anime’s return. Besides, the chances for its return are quite improbable.
Is There Any Hope For A Sequel?
After around four years of its last release, the sequel of the anime remains in high-demand. Yet, fans might never be able to watch the show again. One of the main reasons behind the same lies in its source material. The Divine Gate smartphone game had already ended its service back in December 2018. Hence, it is no longer available to play.

This brings havoc in the world as desires and conflict intersect. In order to restore peace and order, the World Council is formed. Now that the Divine Gate has become an urban legend, the World Council is recruiting kids deemed fit to reach the gate once again. The boys and girls who reach the gate can remake the world and alter the past or future.
The basic plot of the anime is adapted from the Divine Gate smartphone game. However, now that the game is discontinued, Season 2 does not have any content to adapt. Hence, if Studio Pierrot (or another studio) decides to produce the sequel, it’ll have to prepare original content. Well, this might change the entire storyline of the series. Fans might get to watch a new set of characters or a different premise based on the world created in the first season.
Divine Gate Season 2: Release Date
As of now, Studio Pierrot or any other producers of the show have not confirmed the second season. Hence, it’s currently hard to predict a release date. However, even if the renewal comes this year, Divine Gate Season 2 might take a few years to return.
