With every passing year, the chances for the renewal of Jitsu wa Watashi wa Season 2 are decreasing. Yet, fans are still hopeful for the return of their favorite rom-com anime. As of now, neither TMS Entertainment nor its subsidiary 3xCube Studio is planning to produce the sequel. Will it ever release? What’s in the future of Actually I Am Season 2? Here’s everything you need to know.
Jitsu wa Watashi wa, also known as Actually I Am, is a famous Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiji Masuda. It began serialization in Weekly Shounen Champion manga magazine back in January 2013. The series gained popularity when TMS Entertainment announced an anime adaptation of the story. In July 2015, the television anime debuted in Japan while Crunchyroll streamed the episodes in North America. The finale episode aired in September of the same year, and fans have been waiting for a second season ever since.
Will The Studio Ever Renew Jitsu wa Watashi wa Season 2?
For more than five years now, the studio has kept us waiting for the renewal of Jitsu wa Watashi wa Season 2. Well, the anime received low ratings from critics, yet, it managed to leave an impression on many viewers. Even today, a large fan-following is awaiting its return. However, despite heavy demands, either of its producers has not confirmed the rom-com series’s return.
One of the main issues standing in the way of Actually I Am Season 2 renewal is the end of its source material. Anime adaptations often act as mere advertisements of their respective light novels, mangas, or video games. Hence, they only survive as long as there’s content to promote. Unfortunately, the Jitsu wa Watashi wa manga series has already concluded way back in March 2017. Thus, in lack of manga volumes to promote, the anime might not get another chance at the screens.
However, as long as fans are supporting the sequel, there’s always hope for it. TMS Entertainment (and 3xCube) might take the risk if enough people sign petitions for the renewal of Jitsu wa Watashi wa Season 2. Well, given the reputation of TMS Entertainment, it will still be hard for fans to convince the studio. Keep an eye on this corner for all future updates.
Is There Enough Source Material For Actually I Am Season 2?
The Jitsu wa Watashi wa manga series serialized for a total of 22 volumes between 2013 and 2017. The first season of its anime adaptation only covered the first eight volumes. Hence, the studio still has more than enough source material for a new season. Thus, Actually I Am Season 2 will likely adapt the plot of the next eight manga volumes (probably starting from Chapter 68) and might include some missing chapters from previous volumes.
When Will Jitsu wa Watashi wa Season 2 Release?
Since the studios are yet to renew the sequel, it’s currently hard to predict a release date. However, even if they greenlight it sooner, the installment will still take a few years in production. As of now, a late-2022 or early 2023 premiere seems the most likely. Well, given that TMS Entertainment has a busy schedule for the coming years, Actually I Am Season 2 might take even longer to return. We will update this article with the official date once it is announced.
