Studio Trigger is famous for not producing sequels. Even its most popular anime never got a chance to return to the screens. Hence, fans are now scared for the future of Kiznaiver Season 2. The action sci-fi anime series came out back in 2016 and won millions of hearts internationally. Is there any hope for a second season? Can fans save it from cancelation? Kiznaiver is a popular 2016 anime series produced by Studio Trigger, Aniplex and Crunchyroll. The episode director of Trigger’s successful show Kill la Kill, Hiroshi Kobayashi, made his directorial debut with Kiznaiver. The story of the anime is based in a futuristic town created by the Japanese government to test a large-scale experiment. Hence, they select six young kids and bind them together as Kiznaivers, to test the Kizna System enabling them to share their pain and suffering.
Kiznaiver Season 2: Renewed Or Canceled?
Like all its popular shows, Trigger has left all Kiznaiver fans hanging with only the first season. Even though they haven’t canceled the anime, the studio currently has no plans to continue the story. For over four years now, the demands for a second installment are only increasing. However, as per the looks chances for the anime’s return relatively low.
One of the main reasons why we might not get to watch Kiznaiver Season 2 is the performance of its predecessor. The first season was a commercial failure for its producers. Its viewership was lower than what creators expected, whereas the DVD/Blu-Ray sales were also embarrassing. Even though it sold well internationally, the anime couldn’t do much business in Japan. Hence, while popular Trigger shows like Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia are yet to get sequels, the studio might not pick up Kiznaiver again anytime soon.

While the numbers don’t support Kiznaiver’s renewal, the series is still popular amongst the masses. A large fan-following is still waiting for the anime to return. Besides, aside from Trigger, co-producers Aniplex and Crunchyroll also have a say in its future. Hence, if enough fans sign petitions in support of the second season, the creators might actually take the risk. Moreover, Trigger recently renewed the sequel of its popular show SSSS.Gridman called SSSS.Dynazenon, which set to premiere in April 2021. This suggest that there still might be hope for Kiznaiver Season 2.
When Will Kiznaiver Season 2 Release?
As of now, Trigger, Aniplex and Crunchyroll are yet to renew Kiznaiver for a second run. However, even if the renewal comes right now, the sequel might take a few years to hit the screens. Currently, a mid-2022 release date seems the most likely for the anime. We will update this section once the producers announce the official premiere.
