Right as the second season of Mushoku Tensei got a green signal, the debates around Mushoku Tensei Season 3 started on the internet. In one of the interviews, author Rifujin na Magonote mentioned that the first twenty-four volumes of his text were only a prequel story to what is about to happen in Mushoku Tensei. He elaborated that there were about twenty-four more volumes lined up as the main story. If that is truly the case, does this mean that the anime will only have limited seasons? Mushoku Tensei Season 3: Renewed Or Not?
On March 6, 2022, Studio Bind, the new production company started by White Fox singularly for this anime, confirmed that Mushoku Tensei Season 2 was renewed. Even though neither of these companies has confirmed the renewal of season 3, there is one piece of update that green lits Mushoku Tensei Season 3.
On the same day as the renewal of the sequel, leak page SugoiLITE confirmed that both Season 2 and Season 3 were under production. It is likely that the third edition would be renewed right with the release of the sequel.
Production Updates
While there is no update from the makers themselves, the leaks have mostly come from trustable sources. After SugoiLITE, Manga Mogura also stamped both the third and second season fo MT were under production at Studio Bind. The debut season aired the final episode in December 2021. Thus, the second season might already have finished the production work. Thus leading to the beginning of the animation work of Season 3.
In addition to all this, Bind had also launched a production company under the name of VLON. This was the biggest step in the production so far. If this wing is solely dedicated towards Mushoku Tensei, then we might hope to see the entire story get animated one day.
Will There Be Enough Source Material After Season 2?
Unlike other banners, Mushoku Tensei does not draw a plot directly from the manga. Instead, the text is bypassed, and the Light Novel by Rifujin na Magonote is the inspiration for an adaptation. The story has twenty-five volumes in total. The first season of twenty-three episodes ended up using only the first six volumes of the light novel series. This leaves an ample amount of source material for around four total seasons.
It is possible that Mushoku Tensei Season 3 will get an adaptation from the 12th volume forth. But the inclusion of arcs will tend to change the number by one or two. Here is what would happen in the third season.
What Will Happen In Season 3?
There is a lot of debate around which arc the third season will follow. Since the sequel would also be split-cour, the possibility of it covering more than one arc is high. So, the second season would play the Teleport Labyrinth Arc. This is the last storyline that would conclude Season 2. Afterward, the major arc left for the third season is the Asura Kingdom Arc.
This storyline deals with the titular Kingdom that holds a great deal of power in the Central Continent. Being one of the most abundant and richest regions in the world, this continent turns out to be the next adventure for Rudeus. Before this, Turning Point 4 arc will also consume a major part of the second season. After this, a past sequence focuses on the lives of Lucy Greyrat and Lara Greyrat.
Spin-offs & Originals!
Every so often, the makers of Mushoku Tensei make a note of announcing new projects in the MT franchise. But there is no such edition that would become a part of the original anime series. As of March 2022, a new MT OVA was announced right before the launch of Season 2. This was the unaired special that dealt with Eris’ story and her struggles in the world of Goblin Slaying.
This is being considered the 24th episode of the first season. Other than this, there is no other animated spin-off underway. Although there are many sideways manga stories catching the attention of fans including the Depressed Magician Arcs and others.
Mushoku Tensei Season 3: Release Date
The OVA is set to release in Blu-Ray format on March 16, 2022. However, there is still no release date for the second season. The pilot was released in January 2021 and ran through the entire year. Fans believe that something similar would happen for season 2 as well. But considering that the production is almost complete, Mushoku Tensei Season 2 will make it to the table by the Summer 2022 slate.
But Mushoku Tensei Season 3 has no chance of a comeback until the end of 2023. Right as the second season ends, only then can one speculate the release date for the third one.
