In the season of live-action, Netflix has brought yet another series for its anime audience. The popular streaming company previously launched Cowboy Bebop LA. However, due to the slow pacing, it got canceled. But this time, Netflix has set its eyes on another fan-favorite series. And this will certainly bring a change in the air for live-action adaptions of anime shows. Finally, Netflix has confirmed One Piece live-action is beginning its production! One Piece is an original classic of famous mangaka Eiichiro Oda. The story began in 1999 and continues to be a perfect blend of adventure and fantasy. It focuses on Luffy, a young boy who gains rubber powers after eating Gum-Gum fruit. Toei Animation’s One Piece got a TV broadcast in October 1999 and is currently getting adapted for a live-action. The series has completed the milestone of 1000 episodes. So, the live-action show has a ton of material to get to.
Netflix Announces One Piece Live Action In Works!
Now, this has taken the headlines of several news stories previously, but nothing was confirmed. The show was further delayed due to COVID-19 guidelines. However, on February 2nd, Netflix finally greenlights the series being in production via a Twitter post. The news came through Netflix’s Geeked account, which showcases bits and sneak peeks of the upcoming shows. One Piece live-action is one of such names.
The post features two pictures promoting the main cast of the new journey. A following tweet made its way later, which confirms the names of the two executive producers. The news of One Piece getting a live-action was already significant. The rumors began long back in 2017. However, despite the cast sharing pictures relating to the same, nothing was certain. Well, Netflix finally confirmed this detail, and with the series finally up for making, fans can expect to relive Luffy’s journey once again.
Production Details!
One Piece live-action will reportedly have ten episodes which were scheduled in 2020. The background of the show will be set in Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa. Netflix’s live-action has continuously teased bits of the show being in production. With Steven Maeda’s Twitter post with Luffy’s hat as a keychain or posting a bit of the script of Episode 1, which is called “Romance Dawn.” Till now, no update has caught the public eye about when the show will be done with filming. However, with Episode 1 almost over, the show will soon reach its fans.
Netflix Confirms Cast & Crew!
One Piece Live Action will need several characters in their cast team. However, only the Straw Hat Crew actors have been confirmed till now. This includes Inaki Godoy as the main character, Monkey D. Luffy. Next up is Emily Rudd as Nami and Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro. Finally, Jacob Romero Gibson and Taz Skylar as Usopp and Sanji, respectively. Netflix confirmed all the actors who are playing the pirates earlier in December 2021.
All the members of the staff’s team are yet to come to light. However, Steven Maeda is the executive producer of the series, coming right after is Matt Owens, who is also the showrunner with the original creator Eiichiro Oda. Finally, it is confirmed that the writers of the live-action show are die-hard fans of the mangaka. So, the show is expected to be promising amongst the fans.
