The One Piece Live-Action has been in talks for the last four years. The Tomorrow Studio has been pushing the production work of the series since 2018. But now, Netflix has confirmed that there might not be any further delays in the process. Moreover, they have revealed the title of the first episode as compensation for the delay.
One Piece Live-Action: Production Status
The One Piece Live-Action series has been an ambitious project that was inaugurated on July 21, 2021. Since then, the venture has been facing endless difficulties in production work. During an interview with SyFy Wire, the producer of the series, Marty Adelstein, revealed that the production of the show was to begin in August 2020. But due to the pandemic restrictions, the shootings were called off in Cape Town. The filmmaker also confirmed that all the writing work of the live-action adaptation was finished, only the filming was to start.
Recently, show maker Steven Maeda has revealed that the shooting of the One Piece Live-Action began in March 2021. Moreover, he revealed that the codename for the new series is Project Roger. Thus, Project Roger is currently shooting the series in Cape Town, and the post-production work would commence soon.

From all the official updates, fans know that the One Piece Live-Action is going to be a ten-episode series on Netflix. Mangaka Eiichiro Oda himself is working on the scripts and story of the series. Tomorrow Studios will be doing the hard-lifting of shooting and producing the show. For now, the cast names of the show have not been revealed. The same is the case with the plot of the series. The word that is spreading like wildfire is that the live-action will dictate the origin story of the Straw Hats. This will include Luffy, Nami, Sanji, and the rest of the members. The title of the first episode was revealed to be “Romance Dawn.”
Well, Romance dawn is essentially the second arc of the One Piece manga. Thus, it confirms the theory that the plot will take up one of the voyages from the East Blue Saga of the manga. For now, author Eiichiro Oda has not confirmed if he is writing a new plotline for the series. Thus, it is safe to say that the plot would be adapted from the first act of the manga.

For the time being, neither the makers nor Netflix has confirmed a solid release date for the live-action series. So far, only the production details of the anime have been revealed. If the series began production in March 2021, it is safe to say that the filming and post-production work would take around a year to finish.
