Most of the edgy humor is believed to be devoid of a proper storyline. Well, Prison School is one such anime that broke all the norms when it first came out in July 2015. After a successful run of twelve episodes, fans were expecting an early renewal. However, all they could catch was a television drama release. So, what happened to the franchise? Why was it not renewed? Here is all you need to know about the return of Prison School Season 2.
Akira Hiramoto’s Prison School manga was first launched in the year 2011. The adult comedy manga was serialized in the Weekly Young Magazine. In a matter of six years, the banner managed to publish twenty-eight volumes in total. Later in 2015, Studio JC Staff brought the first anime adaptation of the adult story. The banner was licensed by Madman Entertainment and Funimation. Exactly one month after the series came to a halt, Robot Studio brought a television drama to the franchise. Now, fans wait to hear more about its Season 2.
Prison School Season 2: Renewal Status
Prison School Season 2 has not officially been renewed. Studio JC Staff has been silent on the matter ever since. However, certain staff members of the anime did give out some details of the return. In a small twitter interaction between the makers of the series and Naoyuki Uchida, quite some insights resurfaced. Naoyuki, who is a renowned mystery writer of Japan, praised Shirobako for his work in Prison School.
In a follow-up tweet, the author asked him about the return of the series. Tsutomu Mizushima and Shirobako both dodged the question. However, the former wrote that he wished to work on Prison School Season 2. This little conversation did spark a debate in the discussion threads and comment sections. But an official announcement never made it to the floors.

Production Updates!
A quick glance at the recent releases of JC Staff will tell you all about the studio’s history. The animation company has not touched on any long-term projects in the last four years. Almost all of the anime that have come out of the studio only had a single season of split-cour anime. Now, if only this data is to be believed, Prison School Season 2 would be a tough renewal. However, there have been exceptional cases when an anime is brought back in high demand.
Anime like Is It Wrong To Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeons has seen more than four seasons. Food Wars also extended up to four seasons, one after the other. Thus, this sequel might happen if all the other factors are suitable.
Manga Compared To Anime
The Prison School manga is a vast collection of chapters. The entire text consists of twenty-eight volumes. As per a rough estimate by the manga readers, the twelve episodes only ended up using the first seventy-seven chapters of the manga. This accounts for only seven to eight volumes of the story. Of the total 277 chapters, more than two hundred chapters are left to get an adaptation. And so, it can be said that Prison School Season 2 has more than enough source material.
In fact, there is material left for many seasons after the second one. Thus, fans can be safe with the renewal decision of the second season Prison School.
Plot Details
The overall story of Prison school did turn out to be highly controversial. The story revolves around the lives of prisoners who indulge in sexual activities in prison to enjoy their time in the cell. Five boys, namely Takehito “Gakuto” Morokuzu, Shingo Wakamoto, Jouji “Joe” Nezu, Reiji “Andre” Andou, and Kiyoshi Fujino, are stuck in prison filled with a thousand girls. What follows is an adult comedy combined with a touch of emotions and drama. Towards the end of this rollercoaster season, it is revealed that all the boys served their time in prison and got out of jail.
However, their menace was not contained behind the closed cells of the prison. After coming out of the jail, the news of their activities in the cell leaks out. Thus, it reached the prison-clad USC, who is coming back to the school to meet with these boys. Soon enough, the Aboveground Student Council (ASC) also gets involved in the matter. Now, the story of Prison School will pick up from the same point. The boys will be facing the repercussions of their actions from the previous season.
It is likely that these boys will be taken back to prison for their heinous acts. But, they will find a way to continue the menace in the second act as well. Fans are already hyped to go back to the mischievous world of Prison School. It will be interesting to see what additions JC Staff has for the upcoming season.
Prison School Season 2: Release Date
For now, there is no official announcement on the return of Prison School, let aside the release date. But ecchi series like this one always have a high chance of returning. As JC Staff goes through a busy schedule, it can be assumed that Prison School will not return in 2022. Fans will have to wait for a year and a half at the least to get a new season.
