The title of the next episode will be “Blue Swallow.” While fans of rom-coms probably expected more, this scene does a good job of establishing the possibilities for romance between Shouxue and Gaojun. While also recognizing the severe stakes involved. In light of the series’ emphasis on history, politics, and social roles, a more dramatic love story would be too artificial and threaten the series’ tone. Shouxue’s generosity in response to Gaojun’s political move and offer of friendship is a huge step toward a stronger.
