Finally, after five long years, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2 is returning. That’s right! The series created a huge buzz shortly after its premiere. Despite being one of the most fantastic series, its fate remained in limbo. But fans don’t have to wait for more. That’s because we have a pleasant update for the series fans suggesting the anime is gearing to return as soon as possible. You heard that right! The Jibaku Shonen Hanako-Kun Season 2 release date has already been announced. So, let’s see when it will be returned.
Based on the Iro-Aida duo’s Japanese manga series, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun is centered on Kamome Academy, its Seven Wonders, and supernatural occurrences. The school is rumored to have several supernatural mysteries, and the strangest one surrounds the mischievous ghost of Hanako-kun. After a high schooler, Nene Yashiro accidently summons Hanako-kun, she uncovers a mysterious world of supernatural beings.
Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2 Is Renewed!
After the original anime series returned with a brand-new adaptation named After-school Hanako-Kun, fans believed they would never see Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun again. It’s been years since the anime debuted on January 10, 2020, and fans haven’t heard anything of it. This led many to believe that the anime was a done deal. But wait a minute! While everyone thought the anime had concluded, it returned with a bang.
During the After-school Hanako-Kun Halloween After Party in November 2023, the official channels shared that Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2 would return. That’s right! The anime is gearing up to return as soon as possible. Well, there’s no denying that the series is a masterpiece. Shortly after its debut, it received positive reception from the audience as well as critics. It gained 7.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb. Meanwhile, it amassed 4.8 stars out of 5 on Crunchyroll.
Later, the official X/Twitter account of Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun shared a delightful update. The official account posted a confirmation update hinting at the renewal of Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2. It also confirmed that After School Boy Hanako-kun is also ready to return with four episodes in the fall of 2024. According to the reports, the sequel series was already aired on October 7, which fans can catch on Crunchyroll.
When Will Jibaku Shonen Hanako-Kun Season 2 Enter Production?
After the series received greenlit in November 2023, the production committee confirmed that the anime was officially in production. Typically, animation takes a year or more to finish. The first season took only a year to finish production work. However, a year has passed, and the production committee hasn’t shared anything about the series’ production status. While it remains unclear how long it will take to finish animating, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2 is all set to return sooner rather than later.
The anime has already entered its post-production stage, which means the show will return soon. Speaking of the delay in the production, the creative team confirmed two anime projects back in November. Both Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2 and After-School Hanako-Kun were animated together, which is the sole reason behind the delay in this production. Since the four-episode sequel has already been aired, fans will receive the highly anticipated Season 2 soon.
Will Studio Lerche Return?
Although Jibaka Shonen Hanako-kun Season 2 was announced a year ago, the production committee has yet to share the staff details. However, we know that Lerche will return to produce the series. The first season was produced by Studio Lerche aka Studio Hibari, Inc. It was founded in July 1979 in Oizumi by Sachiko Mitsunobu and her husband, Hiroyoshi Mitsunobu. She was a former cel-colorist in Tsuchida Production, and her husband was an anime director.
The studio is known for animating several hit animes, including Duel Masters Charge, Moonlight Mile, Magical Girl Raising Project, Classroom of the Elite, and High Card. The studio house has also worked on several OVA/ONAs and movies. While it’s known for the success of both Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun and After-School Hanako-Kun, it hasn’t shared many details about the series’ staff members.
But we do know that it will return because the animation house has remained the sole production house behind the series. Following are the staff members who will join Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2. Yohei Fukui will replace Masaomi Ando as Fukui will take over the role of director. Yasuhiro Nakanishi will join as the series composer and character designer Mayuka Ito will also return.
Is There Enough Source Material?
Of course, yes! The anime is based on a Japanese manga series illustrated by Aida and written by Iro. It started serializing in 2014 in Square Enix’s magazine Monthly GFantasy. As of October 2024, the manga is collected in 22 tankobon volumes with over 119 chapters, and the first season covers chapters from books 1 to 8, which means almost 40. So, we expect the same with Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2. Season 2 will cover almost 40 chapters of the source material, leaving room for another season.
Although nothing is known about Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 3, there’s a high chance that the anime can return. That’s because the manga’s popularity has reached great heights. As of February 2024, it had over 10 million copies in circulation, which was huge. Since the manga is ongoing, it doesn’t seem like Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun will conclude after two seasons. The anime will definitely return with more seasons. However, fans have to wait for that. That’s because only 119 chapters have been published. So, to return with a third or fourth season, the manga must release more chapters.

The Official Trailer Is Out!
The production committee announced the much-awaited news during a special summer event in Japan. It shared the official trailer of Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun Season 2. The supernatural mischief is all set to take Nene to a world of supernatural beings. The trailer begins with Nene knocking on the door of an abandoned washroom, waking up the spirit Hanako-kun. This time, they will be joined by a group of friends who want to resolve the mystery related to the supernatural connection with the school. The group will work on seizing the evil spirits to make a balance between the spiritual world and the human world.
