Are you excited about the new Ultraman movie? For the past five years, Netflix has been trying very hard to expand its animation counterpart globally. So, one of the successful contributors in this arena has been Japanese animated shows. Hence, the streaming service has created a number of original and rebooted anime series in hopes of garnering more audience. Well, their ploy is blooming so far.
In the series of these ventures, Netflix has a grand plan of introducing the world to a Japanese superhero. Thus, we can safely say that he is the Iron Man of Japan. Yes, we are talking about Ultraman. This is a classic television series that hit Japan back in 1966. It was brought by Tsuburaya Productions, which is the homegrown company of Eiji Tsuburaya, the creator of Ultraman. So, what is Netflix up to? Let’s explore the odds.
The Ultraman CG Animation Movie
Netflix has approached Tsuburaya Productions to offer a project of a CG animated Ultraman movie. And as it happens, the two companies have successfully collaborated to bring back Ultraman. In 2019, the streaming service brought back Ultraman in the form of a 13-episode series, Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series. However, the project did not gain as much popularity. So, it looks like their second attempt at it will hit the mark, and the film might perform brilliantly for Netflix.
Ultraman: Plot Details
The official synopsis by Netflix suggests that there will be few changes from the original script of Ultraman. Ultraman is the story of a regular Japanese war soldier who must become a superhero for the sake of his country’s safety. The story is a beautiful description of how an ideal superhero should be. In the original 1966 show, Ultraman had the ability to turn into a giant robot, commonly known as a kaiju. However, Netflix states that Ultraman’s powers are going to be a little different from the original. Let’s see what set of strengths this new superhero will hold.
A Trustable Team
The popular streaming service is known for hiring some of the best faces for their aspirational projects. This time around, Shannon Tindle is on the team as the director of the film. Moreover, Aoshima will be assisting the movie as co-director. Marc Haimes is also joining the team to polish this product further. Director Tindle has been very vocal about his excitement to work on Eiji Tsuburaya’s masterpiece. It looks like Ultraman is all set to become a grand event in the upcoming years.
It should be noted that Ultraman is not specifically an anime project. Netflix describes the upcoming film as CG animation. This means that the film will fall into the category of a live-action reboot, suggests a report by Variety. As of now, neither the names of the cast nor the release date has been made public. However, we hope to find more news about this film in the upcoming months.
